Site SearchRaleigh, N.C. — The Wake County Board of Commissioners voted 6-1 Monday afternoon to award a grant to the George's Mews project.
A non-profit group, Community Alternatives for Supportive Abodes (CASA), wants to take over the George's Mews Apartments at the corner of Glenwood Avenue and Washington Street. Their plan calls for turning the units into affordable housing for the disabled and low-income families.
The grant of up to $560,893 in county community investment program funds to CASA will be used for acquisition and rehabilitation of the 26-unit apartment complex.
The City of Raleigh has already committed nearly $1million to the project.
Some existing residents who fall below the poverty line may be eligible to stay at the complex.
