Police chase yields stolen-goods, DWI charges

State troopers charged two Cary men with alcohol and theft offenses after a chase that exceeded 90 mph on Interstate 40 early Thursday.

A trooper tried to pull over a silver Jetta for going 92 mph along Interstate 40 between the Gorman Street and Lake Wheeler Road exits around 2:15 a.m. The driver refused to stop, and the trooper pursued, officials said.

The chase ended near Lily Allen Road when the car's occupants jumped out of it and ran. The Jetta, which was still in drive, ran down an embankment.

Raleigh police assisted in the operation and helped arrest Breion Duran Young, 20, and Carlos Dontell Golden, 19.

Young faces felony charges of larceny and possession of stolen goods and a host of traffic violations: driving while impaired, speeding 92 mph in a 65 mph zone, speeding to elude, running a red light and an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was also charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer.

Golden faces charges of felony possession of a stolen vehicle; resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer; and an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Both were being held in the Wake County Jail on Thursday evening. Young had a $6,500 bond, and Golden, a $5,500 bond.

Young served probation in 2005 for simple assault.
