Microsoft cutting 55 jobs in Raleigh; Wells Fargo, American Express also cut jobs in N.C.

Raleigh, N.C. —
Three mass layoffs notices field with the North Carolina Department of Commerce last week show the continuing impact the economic recession is having on the high-tech and financial services sectors across North Carolina.
In Raleigh, Microsoft plans to lay off 55 of some 100 software-related workers as of July 4, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice that was filed on May 5.
On May 4, Wells Fargo said it would cut 548 jobs in Charlotte where it is taking over Wachovia.
Also on May 5, American Express said it was closing a travel operation in High Point where 103 people worked.
