Cary, N.C. — Software giant SAS is launching a business unit focused on the oil and gas industry, seeing an opportunity to help companies better manage reserves and production.
SAS announced the Global Oil and Gas Business Unit on Monday at the World Petroleum Congress in Madrid, Spain.
“With energy demand surging worldwide, oil and gas companies face daunting challenges daily,” said Frank Mollerop, the executive who will spearhead the SAS venture.
“SAS has worked with oil and gas customers for more than 20 years, and we believe they are anxious to enhance global performance,” he added. “This industry generates mountains of valuable data that – if analyzed and leveraged correctly – could make a significant difference in efficiency and profits.”
SAS energy customers include ConocoPhillips Norway and Petroras, a Brazilian energy firm.
