RTI wins award for wireless networking solution in Africa

Research Triangle Park, N.C. —
A wireless network for health records at perinatal clinics in Zambia earned RTI International a “Best Practices in Mobile and Wireless” award from Computerworld’s Mobile & Wireless World magazine.
RTI developed a system that links 24 health clinics with the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. The information is used to help manage care for more than 140,000 patients.
The magazine picked RTI for its “Innovation and Promise” award.
RTI built the system along with the University of Alabama Birmingham Center for Research in Women's Health and the Center for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provided funding support for the project.
