EMC Buys Texas Software Firm

HOPKINTON, Mass. — EMC, a provider of information infrastructure software and hardware solutions, has acquired Voyence, a privately held software firm in Texas.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

EMC (NYSE: EMC ) employs some 700 people in the Research Triangle, N.C. area where it manufactures some of the company’s most popular hardware.

Voyence develops network configuration and change management software.

EMC made the deal to expand its ability to provide information technology service management from network compliance to service provider network infrastructures.

“With over 70 percent of service impacting problems caused by mis-configured devices, customers are automating manual change processes and realizing significant improvements in availability, security and compliance,” said Susan Nash, Voyence’s chief executive officer. “Together with EMC, Voyence now has the resources to realize the full potential of our technology, and bring a broader set of products to a larger customer base much faster."

EMC also recently acquired Berkeley Data Systems, a Utah-based firm that offers an online subscription service for data protection.
