N.C. Hands Out Nearly $800K in Grants for Alternative Fuel Projects

RALEIGH, N.C. – Several companies and government agencies will receive nearly $800,000 in grants from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources to fund alternative fuel projects.

In all, 14 projects in 11 counties received the funds.

The projects:

Blue Ridge Biofuels in Buncombe County received $28,000 to purchase biodiesel equipment.

Metrolina Biofuels in Gaston County received $9,000 to purchase biodiesel equipment.

Green Transit in Madison County received $40,750 to purchase equipment and convert vehicles to biodiesel.

The town of Black Mountain in Buncombe County received $10,504 to purchase an electric vehicle.

The Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County school system received $37,920 to retrofit school buses with diesel emissions control devices.

The city of Raleigh in Wake County received $68,000 to retrofit solid waste vehicles with diesel emissions control devices.

The Gaston County Landfill in Gaston County received $13,000 to purchase biodiesel equipment.

Haywood Community College received $9,648.75 to purchase an electric vehicle.

Mecklenburg County Air Quality in Mecklenburg County received $230,000 to re-power construction equipment.

Piedmont Biofuels in Chatham County received $40,000 to purchase a biodiesel tank truck.

The Public Schools of Robeson County received $200,000 to retrofit school buses with diesel. emissions control devices and closed crankcase ventilation systems.

Pitt County Schools in Pitt County received $68,400 to retrofit school buses with diesel emissions control devices.

Caldwell County received $30,000 to increase biodiesel distribution.

Old Salem Museum in Forsyth County received $13,175 to purchase an electric vehicle.
