Research Triangle Park, N.C. — The founders of semiconductor startup Beeco always considered the name a temporary one – more of a code word.
As of today, Beeco is known as siXis.
The Intersouth-backed venture has been quite busy in recent months, especially after closing on $5 million in venture financing in June and bringing on semiconductor industry veteran John Goehrke as its chief executive officer.
SiXis is developing patented technology for use in semiconductor chips.
“Over the past quarter, we created the company, received venture funding, built our team and shipped our first beta system,” Goehrke said. “We wanted to formally launch the company with a name and an identity that illustrates the power of our patent-pending technology: silicon connecting silicon.”
RTI International also backs the company. Earlier this year siXis received the “Spin-Out of the Year Award” from the Council for Entrepreneurial Development.
The company’s technology enables semiconductor chip producers to reduce chip size and power requirements. It licensed from RTI a silicon integrated circuit board technology that enables chips to be placed directly on a silicon substrate instead of a standard circuit board.
SiXis plans to formally launch its first product at an international semiconductor conference in November.
