NCSU shares in $395,000 NSF grant for accident-avoidance project
Researchers at N.C. State University will use knowledge gained from development of an autonomously controlled vehicle in a federally funded project to help improve vehicle safety through accident-avoidance technology.
NCSU, Lotus Engineering and the New Jersey Institute of Technology have received a $395,068 grant from the National Science Foundation for the project. The funding covers three years.
The three entities will work with the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research in Northampton County.
NCSU and Lotus were two of the partners involved in an NCSU-backed team that entered a specially equipped Lotus car in the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency’s autonomous vehicle competition last year.
The team will seek to develop advanced-warning systems.
