Research Triangle Park, N.C. — Despite some weather issues that affected flights in and out of Boston, some 20 representatives from the Triangle journeyed to the northeast to meet with potential investors on Thursday.
The trip, sponsored by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development and the Research Triangle Regional partnership, included a luncheon and discussions at the Boston Hyatt Harborside Hotel.
The event drew some 30 executives from the Boston area investment community, including representatives of several high-profile venture capital firms.
“We were really excited about the turnout,” said Rob Caudle, public relations manager for the CED. “We just tried to show the value of investing here in the Triangle and what is going on in this state.”
The trip was the second in three years put on by the CED and the Triangle partnership.
“We hear from a lot of people that investment from outside of the state is just as important as that inside the state,” Caudle said.
N.C. representatives included CED President Monica Doss, Triangle partnership Executive Vice President Ted Abernathy, Square 1 Bank Chief Executive Officer Richard Casey, Near Time CEO Reid Conrad, and Duke University Health System CEO Victor Dzau.
Representatives of the Fidelity Investments, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, North Carolina Board of Science & Technology, North Carolina State University, UNC-Chapel Hill and other companies went along.
“The lunch provided an informal venue to re-connect with investors and share the Triangle’s latest investment opportunities,” Doss said. “As we experienced the last time in Boston, this trip provided a unique opportunity to position North Carolina as a hotbed of innovation and entrepreneurial activity.”
