Raleigh, N.C. —
Jim Fain, who heads North Carolina’s Department of Commerce, plans to step down from that post, but not immediately.
A Commerce spokesperson said Thursday that Fain “does not plan to be the commerce secretary in the next administration, but he is not stepping down now.”
Fain has led aggressive economic development recruitment efforts as part of Gov. Mike Easley’s administration over the past eight years. Easley’s second term ends Jan. 10, when Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue will he sworn in.
