Chapel Hill, N.C. — Larry Conrad, a veteran technology executive at Florida State University, is the new vice chancellor for information technology as well as chief information officer at UNC Chapel Hill.
Conrad will assume the UNC post on Feb. 1. He replaces Dan Reed, who resigned recently to join Microsoft.
Conrad currently is associate vice president for technology integration and CIO at Florida State University. He has worked at FSU since 1998. Conrad also has extensive experience in working with the Lambda Rail project, a high-speed network linking universities and other institutions across the U.S. He recently was named to the Internet 2 External Relations Council. Internet 2 is a high-speed research and education network.
“Mr. Conrad’s experience at the university, state and national levels is impressive,” said Bernadette Gray-Little, executive vice chancellor and provost at UNC, in a statement. “He has more than 35 years experience in the field of information technology and has a diverse background in both corporate and university settings, with extensive experience in academic and administrative computing, as well as telecommunications.”
Conrad is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in computer science. He received a Master’s in computer science from Arizona State. He worked at Arizona State for 10 years before moving to Florida State.
