Lenovo Teams Up with Avaya To Add Secure VoIP Capability to Laptops

MORRISVILLE, N.C. – Lenovo is teaming up with Avaya to add secure voice over Internet Protocol phone call capability to its ThinkPad notebooks.

Lenovo, the world’s third largest PC manufacturer which is based in Morrisville, and Avaya, a provider of business communications applications, announced the partnership on Tuesday at the VoiceCon trade show in Orlando, Fla.

The firms said the partnership will provide users with more security, usability and improved quality of service.

Lenovo and Avaya will work together to combine ThinkPad security, such as its fingerprint reader, to support Avaya’s IP Softphone software solution for user authentication.

"Today's professionals work and communicate with colleagues and family at all hours of the day and from different locations outside the office, so it is increasingly important that they have efficient and cost effective communication tools," said Peter Hortensius, senior vice president of Lenovo's notebook business unit. "Avaya's IP telephony solutions, combined with ThinkPad notebooks, allow users to take their office phone with them on their PCs and securely make calls while at home or on the road."

The first product launch is set for the third quarter.
