ATLANTA — A former executive in IBM security work has taken over as CEO of Damballa, Inc., which makes software to root out attacks on enterprise networks.

In an announcement, Damballa said Val Rahmani joined the company on Tuesday. Damballa said it also had closed on a third round of funding.

Rahmani had been general manager of IBM’s Internet Security Systems (ISS) division. She came to IBM as executive assistant to Chairman and CEO Lou Gerstner, her Damballa biography says.

Damballa reported that the new round of investment was led by Palomar Ventures. InterWest Partners, Noro-Mosely Ventures and Sigma Partners all participated in this round.

In board changes Jim Gauer, managing director at Palomar and veteran IT venture capital fund manager, joined Damballa’s board, as did Fran Dramis, formerly senior vice president and CIO at Bellsouth.
