RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Life sciences service firm Quintiles is opening a research and development facility at a London hospital with an emphasis on improving patient care and speeding up drug development.

The 30-bed facility will be located at Guy’s Hospital in London and will open next year.

Quintiles, which provides clinical trial services as well as consulting and financing to clients around the world, will be working with two partners at the center.

The Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London will collaborate with Quintiles.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

“The biopharmaceutical industry must bring new drugs to market faster and with greater predictability to address declining research and development productivity,” said Eddie Caffrey, senior vice president, for Global Phase I trials at Quintiles. “The smartest move is to invest in intelligent, early-stage development because, when done well, it has significant impact on speed and cost of the overall development process.”

The Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Trust employs more than 10,000 people and works with health care providers on education and research.

King’s College of London is one of the world’s leading universities and has nearly 20,000 students from around the world.

Quintiles already has a presence in London.
