RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Technology Association is teaming up with Taylorsville Elementary School in Taylorsville for its eighth Technology Demonstration Project at a school in a state.

The $95,305 project was funded through a Federal Improvement of Education grant.

The NCTA Education Foundation oversees the project and is planning a ninth.

As part of the project, the Taylorsville school received a variety of new PC hardware, software and supplies. Teachers also were required to undergo 50 hours of training at the Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning.

"Today's students are tomorrow's workforce," said Nicholas Kottyan, chief executive officer of DataChambers and vice chairman of NCTA. "That makes it imperative that we give kids an up-close look at career opportunities in technology and get them excited about developing the skills they will need. North Carolina's future depends upon it."

More than NCTA members attended the launch of the project on Monday.

“I wanted to see greater enthusiasm for teaching and learning; help students acquire the skills needed in the 21st century; provide teachers with the tools they need in the classroom…students showing more motivation to learn and…more collaboration among the staff,” said Taylorsville Principal Susan Campbell. “The project has turned my vision into a reality.”
