RTI hires Maryland biotech exec to lead discovery, analytical unit plus corporate development
RTI international is reaching into the biotechnology ranks for the newest member of its management team.
Jennie Hunter-Cevera, the chief executive officer at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, is joining RTI as executive vice president of discovery and analytical sciences. She led the Maryland institute for the past nine years.
Hunter-Cevera also will take on the role as executive vice president for corporate development. She will be responsible for government relations as well as identifying business opportunities.
Her appointment is effective July 1.
The RTI discovery and analytics business unit focuses on drug discovery and development, biomarkers, forensic sciences and other life science areas.
"[Jennie] brings to RTI a unique combination of skills, experience and business acumen that will serve us well as we address the many scientific and societal challenges and opportunities facing our nation and the world,” said RTI CEO Victoria Haynes.
"I am looking forward to becoming part of an integrated and forward-thinking research institution and contributing to the diverse biological sciences already being advanced in North Carolina,” Hunter-Cevera said in a statement.
A scientist, Hunter-Cevera holds five patents and is seeking 15 others. Her research has focused on natural products. She received a PhD in microbiology at Rutgers, a Master’s in microbiology and a bachelor’s degree in biology at West Virginia.
