BioResource founder receives science award

Jason Shih, chairman of the board and co-founder of BioResource International, is the winner of the 2008 World’s Poultry Science Association research award.

Shih received a cash award of $10,000.

The award, which has been presented for 23 years, is given to a scientist for research that impacts the global poultry industry.

Shih, a biotechnology professor at N.C. State, and his son, Giles Shih, are co-founders of BioResource. The company researches technology such as using enzymes to turn feathers into feed.

The Shihs launched BioResource in 1999.
