Raleigh, N.C. — Salix Pharmaceuticals (NYSE: SLXP) has acquired a group of drugs from European pharmaceutical firm Dr Falk Pharma for an upfront fee, milestone payments and royalties.
Specific financial terms were not disclosed.
Salix is focused on development and sale of gastrointestinal drugs.
The Dr Falk drugs are already licensed for sale in Europe but have not been approved for use in the United States. The products are sold in the U.K. for treatment of ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and chronic diarrhea due to colitis.
