Biotechnology Firm to Expand in Mecklenburg County, Add 45 Jobs

Raleigh, N.C. — Microban international, a biotechnology firm focused on ingredients to fight microbial and bacterial growth, will expand its headquarters and add 45 jobs in Mecklenburg County, Gov. Mike Easley announced Wednesday.

Microban is located in Huntersville. More than 750 companies worldwide use its technology.

The company said it would invest $8 million as part of the expansion program.

The state awarded the company a $45,000 One North Carolina Fund grant, which requires a community match.

“Microban’s decision points to the success of North Carolina’s work to encourage growth in the biotechnology sector of our economy,” Easley said in a statement. “Our investments in education and providing training for workers in modern facilities are keeping the state a leader in the biotech industry.”

Microban has offices in Canada, the United Kingdom, Thailand and Germany.

The new jobs will pay an average weekly wage of $1,846 plus benefits.

Also participating in the recruiting process were the N.C. Department of Commerce, the Lake Norman Regional Economic Development Commission, the Town of Huntersville and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
