Research Triangle Park, N.C. — Talecris Biotherapeutics is expanding its chance of plasma collection centers.
Talecris Plasma Resources, the subsidiary of Talecris that runs the centers, has purchased three facilities from International BioResources. Another 10 could be opened as part of the deal with International BioResources.
The existing facilities are in Las Vegas, Montgomery, Ala., and Rockford, Ill.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Talecris acquired 56 collection centers from IBR in 2006 in launching its plasma collection operation.
“To meet the growing demand for critical care protein therapies, we have been implementing an aggressive expansion plan for Talecris Plasma Resources,” said Alberto Martinez, chef executive officer of Talecris. “Since January 2007, we have opened eight plasma collection centers and have several more openings scheduled this year. This aggressive schedule combined with this most recent acquisition will advance our goal of ensuring the reliability of our products from the arms of plasma donors to the arms of patients.”
